Abstract

Earthquake ground motion is affected by the local soil conditions and geological structure as well as earthquake source properties. The variations in the strong ground motion amplitude and frequency content caused by local effects are also reflected in the dynamic behavior of soils. In this study, to investigate the effects of basin edge slope on the variation of surface motion under different strong ground motion acceleration records, one and two dimensional dynamic analyses were performed by using the Dinar basin edge model and the results were compared. The variations of the spectral acceleration ratios (2D/1D) were evaluated for different points on the ground surface for various distances from the valley edges. A relationship between the results of one and two dimensional dynamic analyses was established. Shear wave velocity profile and bedrock depth were obtained from largespan simultaneous microtremor array measurements in Dinar.
