Abstract

Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) have been usually recognized as an effective method of vibration control in building structures that are subjected to dynamic forces such as seismic activity and wind. As well as reducing excessive vibrations, these devices also strengthen structural stability by redistributing seismic input energy in the structural system. It is vital to comprehend the mechanisms of energy absorption, dissipation, and transfer between the main structure and the TMD to evaluate their effectiveness. Although numerous studies have concentrated on optimizing TMD parameters to minimize peak displacement and peak acceleration, a relatively small number of studies have systematically addressed the problem from an energy-based perspective. This study deals with this research gap by conducting a systematic literature review on the optimization of TMD in building structures. The review covers articles published over the past decade, collected from reputable academic databases, including Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. To guarantee accuracy and simplicity, the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework is used. The results demonstrate that optimization objectives, design parameters, and optimization methods have an impact on TMD optimization outputs. This study provides crucial insights for both researchers and industry professionals, facilitating improvements in TMD design applications for building structures.
