Abstract

Economic emission dispatch, which is of great importance on the operation of electrical power systems, aims to minimize the total fuel cost and the emission of the system. Also, demand load and any other constraints such as generation capacity constraints and ramp rate limits should be met. This paper proposes two heuristic methods, Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization to solve economic emission dispatch problem considering transmission losses, valve point effect and ramp rate limits. The proposed algorithms were implemented to two test systems of 5-unit and 10-unit and obtained results were compared with the other algorithms in literature. As a result, implementation of the proposed algorithms on economic emission dispatch problems in power systems of various sizes is successful, reliable and flexible.
