Abstract

Since the summer of 2022, a second phase of archaeological research has been carried out at Hacimusalar Mound/Elmali/Antalya/Türkiye by the Eurasian Institute of Earth Sciences at Istanbul Technical University. In this context, the ground penetrating radar method, which provides high resolution and accuracy in shallow areas, was carried out at approximately 4000 m. The study area was chosen between two unearthed churches during previous excavations in the region. During the survey, a shielded antenna with a central frequency of 250 MHz, was used. With the 50 cm spaced ground-penetrating radar data collected parallel to each other, volume data with a vertical axis of depth was obtained. Upon examination of the volume data, high amplitude successive anomalies were observed approximately 1.2 meters below the ground. These anomalies were interpreted as wall remains buried between two churches. The remains are thought to belong to the Byzantine period, the same period as the churches at a similar depth level.
