Abstract
This paper presents two new approaches for the earth distribution method, which is currently being used in highway and railway projects. These approaches are aimed at revising the form of the mass diagram and the earth distribution assumptions in order to make the earth distribution method more realistic. The first approach deals with the problem of when the excavated earth material is not strong enough for the formation of the embankments. The aim of the second approach is to allow the change of waste and/or borrow costs at any point on the mass diagram. This approach is explained in detail by a case study. In addition, the solutions for transition problem in the classical and proposed approaches are given in the Appendices.
