Abstract
The quick progress of 2D nano energy materials (NEMs) is evolving energy systems by offering innovative answers for sustainable energy. This chapter accommodates a review of the alterative prospects of 2D NEMs in energy applications. The introduction section comprises the numerous classes of NEMs after highlighting their general properties. The benefits and drawbacks of utilizing 2D NEMs in energy generation, conversion and storage systems are discussed in the second part. The next part disputes numerous synthesis techniques such as solid-state reaction, co-precipitation, hydrothermal/solvothermal, and sol-gel procedures used in fabricating 2D NEMs. Also, techniques for structural and electrochemical characterization of 2D NEMs are discussed. The real-life applications of 2D NEMs in energy production, conversion and storage systems are examined in the fourth part. In particular, it emphasizes the application of MXenes in the structure of devices like perovskite solar cells (PSCs) in the fields of energy conversion and production. Part five proceeds with a discussion of energy storage devices consist of supercapacitors (SCs) and li-ion batteries (LIBs). Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (Li-NMC) and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) are the main topics for LIBs cathode, while MXenes are discussed for SCs, LIBs anode. Information on the applications of some of the 2D NEMs such as layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and MXenes for water splitting-based hydrogen and oxygen production is given at the end of this section. Finally, the obstacles and barriers of using 2D NEMs are noted and the future perspectives of their application are also discussed.
