Abstract

In this paper, we propose multiamplitude MSK (MAMSK) trellis codes with improved error rate based on multiple trellis coded modulation (MTCM) technique for AWGN and fading channels, we call them multiple MAMSK codes. The proposed coding schemes with rate 1 bit/symbol use reduced signal sets and do not contain external convolutional encoder. Since the design criteria for fading channels are different from those of AWGN channels, we develop two different search algorithms in order to obtain good codes for each type of channels. In each case, the new codes are compared to the ordinary MSK and MAMSK schemes and shown that the proposed codes achieve better error performance.
