Abstract
Recent developments in technology such as Geographic Information System (GIS) and its multimediabased applications can be very useful tools when used to research and document historical structures. This article presents a case study, which demonstrates how the research of two Ottoman fortresses from the 17th century can be documented and organised using a GIS based multimedia application. As one of the essential requirements of GIS is accurate spatial data, a primary goal of this project was to create a complete and accurate set of maps for the two Ottoman fortresses of "Seddülbahir" and "Kumkale" and their environs. This article demonstrates how a multimedia supported GIS can assist in the organisation of geographically oriented data and provides an efficient method of documenting historical structures.
