Abstract

With the rise of the Industry 4.0 concept, most companies face the challenge of setting priorities for digital transformation. Due to various benefits of digital transformation such as cost reduction, increased productivity, and quality, especially manufacturing companies are enthusiastic about embedding innovative digital solutions into their production processes. However, not having an in-depth understanding of the improvement needs in production processes and about the appropriability of digital tools is the major drawback of the organizations and the tendency to utilize heuristic methods rather than quantitative multi-criteria decision-making techniques. In this context, this research paper aims to provide a structured roadmap for efficient quality problem diagnosis concerning their critical to quality (CTQ) attributes and propose a technology selection process for organizations in digital transformation for organizations. The proposed hybrid model, namely the Digital Opportunity Analysis is inspired by the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method to determine the processes to be improved. The model utilizes Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to prioritize the importance of critical to quality attributes with the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method to select the cause of the failure to be mitigated. Also, the Fuzzy AHP is used to determine the digital technology by eliminating the subjectivity problem of expert scoring. A use case is presented to demonstrate and validate a comprehensive technology selection process with the proposed hybrid model.
