Abstract
The Antalya Bay meso-β scale cyclone observed on 8 of July, 1993 is simulated to understand the physical mechanisms responsible for its generation using the National Meteorological Center (NMC)/Eta limited area model. Although the NMC/Eta model was developed to forecast synoptic-scale events, it also simulates well the meso-scale features. The results of the model indicate that a strong westerly flow, orographic forcing due to the Taurus Mountains and surface temperatures of the warm pool in the Antalya Bay are necessary and sufficient conditions to generate the short-lived meso-β scale in the Bay.
