Abstract

This paper presents an experimental and numerical assessment of cylindrical tube-shaped textile reinforced cementitious composites (TRCCs). The TRCC is formed as tube-shaped members. The analyses of TRCC tubes involve the effects of layer numbers and types of textile fibers as the reinforcement. Monotonic and cyclic tests are conducted laterally in the vertical direction. Monotonic compression tests are simulated with using the finite element code and the Microplane Model (M7), as the constitutive damage law for the mortar. The experimental and numerical results show that the number of layers and mortar thickness play significant roles in plastic behaviors, energy absorption, and strength of the tube-shaped forms of textile composites. The critical points and cracking patterns of the TRCC tubes are analyzed in detail. The obtained results of this study can be used to assess the mechanical performance of TRCC tubes. The main conclusion drawn from this study is that utilizing the TRCC tubes in some particular applications might be useful compared to the other conventional composites.
