Abstract

Lyocell fibers are man-made cellulosic fibers which are produced by regenerating cellulose into fiber form out of a solution of cellulose in an organic solvent Manufacruting of Lyocell is conceptually simple. Wood pulp is dissolved in an aqueous amine oxide solvent. The resultant solution is extruded into dilute amine oxide which precipitates the cellulose as a fiber. After washing the fiber is treated according to the end-use. The solvent is purified and recycled. This process is the best available technology for producing fibers from natural cellulose from the enviromental point of view.
