Abstract
In Turkey there is a lack of information about environmental performance of waterproofing materials. Hence ecological effects of materials cannot be considered during design process of building element systems. Aim of this paper is to evaluate the environmental performance of the waterproofing materials. Assessment process was studied on waterproofing materials that are manufactured and used on external wall systems in Marmara Region of Turkey. Initially local manufacturers were listed and sorted by the categories. Subsequently a survey was carried out according to life cycle assessment (LCA) method. Inventory analysis and impact assessment data were gathered through the investigations conducted at visited plants. The survey resulted by limited attendance of available manufacturing facilities. Eventually the environmental performance of APP modified bituminous membrane, polysulfide based liquid and solvent based silicon reinforced liquid were compared.
