Abstract
Kahramanmaras and Adiyaman Provinces are exposed to natural disasters due to their geological structure, climatic conditions and topographic features. Since, in a long term retrospect, no major earthquake has occurred on the segment of the East Anatolian Fault System (EAFS) passing through Kahramanmaras, the region is in a critical state in terms of high earthquake risk. In this study, an earthquake scenario was prepared and the impact area was determined in order to minimize losses after possible earthquake. In addition, the region has been evaluated in terms of accessibility, infrastructure, topography, capacity, land use type by considering disasters such as landslides, floods, rock falls and avalanches. The use of Analytical Hierarchy Method (AHP), which is used in the solution of complex multi-criteria decision-making problems, together with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in the selection of the best alternative is shown on the example of the problem of selection of the areas suitable for the hypothetical settlement.
