Abstract

In this study, combustion experiments were carried out by using different rank coals from Turkey. The experiments, performed at a constant coal particle size and combustion ratio suggested that the coalification degree, which is very important parameter in preparation of coal-water mixtures, is not effectual on the combustion of coal-water slurries. It is observed that the slurries can be combusted with high combustion efficiency independent on the degree of coalification. As a result of combustion tests, a combustion efficiency of 96.5 - 99.0% was achieved in the combustion of coal-water slurries prepared from different rank coals. On the other hand, heat losses during the combustion determined between 5 - 22% depending on the degree of coalification.
