Abstract
The distribution of the electromagnetic field over the cross section of an open resonator (OR) is investigated experimentally for the lowest oscillation mode. It is shown that it differs considerably from the theoretical one. It is pointed out that the electromagnetic field distribution over the cross section will be described by an appropriate superposition of oscillations even for higher oscillation modes in the OR.
