Abstract

Laser welding is widely used in the joining of materials due to the advantages it provides. This study aims to investigate the suitability of different ferritic stainless steels to laser welding method. Within the scope, ferritic stainless steel sheets with a thickness of 0.5 mm of different grades (430, 430Ti and 441) were welded by solid-state disk laser, and welding parameters were determined as 1300 W power, 6 m/min welding speed in continuous wave mode. As a shielding gas, argon was used. Metallographic examinations, SEM–EDS analysis, microhardness measurement were performed, and tensile, cupping tests, and bending tests were carried out with welded and unwelded samples. Thus, the structure and property relationships of ferritic stainless steels joined by laser welding were examined and compared. As a result, adequate welding quality could not be achieved in 430 samples, and it was observed that the welding ability was insufficient compared to 430Ti and 441 samples.
