Abstract

Although there is a growing interest on the effect of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in organizations, there is very little research conducted to support its influence in maritime transportation science. The seafarers on a ship can be directly influenced from communications, behaviors and psychological situations and should continually control their emotions in a closed system of a ship. Thus in this study; it is aimed to understand the effect of emotional intelligence on the work performance of the seafarers. The cohesiveness and performance were investigated through seafarer's relationship with Emotional Intelligence which was assessed by the Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale (SEIS).
