Abstract
Seamless garment production is a flourishing sector that was launched seven years ago and offers new opportunities to the knitwear sector. Its economic and social benefits to the consumer and manufacturer are reviewed. The development of seamless knitting is examined, with reference to the machine technology, product ranges (from garments to medical and protective applications), fabric properties, the impact of seamless garments on the knitting industry (the benefits to manufacturers and consumers alike), and the future of seamless garments. The future of the seamless technique will depend on progress made in the technology, and on the creativity of the designers in appealing to consumers.
