Abstract

A novel approach to model high-Re wall-bounded flows is developed based on coupling the outer flow large-eddy simulation (LES) approach to a near-wall two-level simulation (TLS) approach. Here, the near-wall small-scale field is simulated rather than modeled. Simulations of turbulent channel flows, boundary layer and flow around a surface mounted hill demonstrate the ability of this model for capturing the turbulent flow behavior using very coarse grids.
