Abstract

The Al-Si-X P/M alloy is the most suitable for high-performance applications in the automobile industry. In this study, the characterization of air-atomized powders of Al-20Si-3.3 Fe alloy was performed by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and hardness tester. From the X-ray investigation of the Al-20Si-3.3 Fe alloy powders with an average cooling rate of 103 and 104degK/sec, aluminium matrix phase, silicon, and metastable phase δ-Al4FeSi2 were determined. It was determined that the hardness of the powders with Al-20Si-3.3 Fe alloy increased with decrease in the particle size.
