Abstract
Here, a circularly polarized (CP) wideband microstrip patch antenna operating in the Ku-band is proposed. Due to compact sizes of 5.5 cm by 5.5 cm by 0.52 cm and coaxial probe feed, the suggested element easily fits into 1U CubeSats. The final design has an operating band of 13.7-16.1 GHz and a 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 14-15.2 GHz. Furthermore, the maximum realized gain of 13.9 dBi at 15.4 GHz makes the antenna a promising solution to the path loss problem in satellite communication.
