Abstract

The slot-pole combination of a three-phase induction motor (IM), specifically the number of stator slots, poles, and rotor bars have effects on the operation of the motor. Disturbances in the rotating magnetic field will cause the torque harmonics and decrease the efficiency of the motor. Therefore, this study aims to understand the slot-pole combination effect on the IM in terms of the shaft torque ripple and efficiency After validating the IM model using ANSYS Maxwell & Motor CAD analyses, the advantages of the slot-pole combinations are observed. The comparison results show that the 4-pole IM with 36 stator slots and 26 rotor bars has several advantages. A high frequency IM with the same rotor dimensions is then designed using the previous studies.
