Abstract
The problem of response of a plate-column system supported by a tensionless foundation is considered and the nonlinear governing equations of the problem are obtained. The response of the system is evaluated for various values of the system parameters are presented in figures, to allow comparison between the conventional and tensionless Winkler foundation. In addition to the free and forced vibrations of the system and the harmonic ground motion excitation, the response of the system to the NS component of the El-Centro 1940 earthquake is obtained.
