Abstract

Transformers are essential components in electrical energy distribution systems, with dry-type and oil-type transformers being the two main categories. Understanding the total cost and weight of these transformer types is crucial for optimizing transformer design and performance. This study conducts a comparative analysis of the weight and pricing of dry-type versus oil-immersed transformers, focusing on their practicality and economic efficiency. The findings reveal significant distinctions between the two types of transformers; specifically, oil-immersed transformers exhibit a lower weight and cost compared to their dry-type counterparts. However, dry-type transformers offer greater environmental benefits. This is the first study to compare transformer designs according to TEDAŞ MLZ specifications, focusing specifically on the cost and weight of oil-type and dry-type transformers. These results underscore the distinct characteristics of both transformer types in terms of weight and cost, ultimately assisting designers and customers in making informed choices and optimizing transformer selection.
