Abstract

In this paper, Ziegler-Nichols tuning rules for PID controllers are inspected for time delay dominant systems. Even though the original rules give good performance for time constant dominant systems, they are not suitable for time delay dominant systems. Therefore, a fuzzy mechanism is designed to modify the three parameters of PID controllers. Simple rule-base is formed using single input which is the normalized time delay. Two simulation examples are given to show the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed method.
