Abstract

In this study, a fuzzy gain scheduling based architecture is designed for the control of PLL based frequency synthesizers. The proposed approach, offering a variable gain property, is demonstrated to be more effective over classical and sliding mode control methods for the fast locking and low phase noise requirements of PLL based frequency synthesizers in frequency hopping spread spectrum communication and radar applications. The obtained simulation results are compared with those of a PID, a SMC, and traditional FS controller design and it has been concluded that the settling time and the phase noise of the frequency synthesizer can be optimized using the developed fuzzy gain scheduling based PLL.
