Abstract
In this study, effects of the most widely used types of washing processes in the industry, on strength properties of denim fabrics were investigated. For this purpose, nine different denim fabrics were selected and prepared in trotter form and five different washing processes namely, rinse, enzyme, random, stone and resin washing were applied to the fabrics using an industrial washing machine. Tensile and tear strength, dimensional stability, thickness, and weight of fabrics were measured before and after washing and fabrics' physical performances were evaluated. Maximum strength loss was obtained after random washing. Reducing the amount of enzyme used by half in the first washing stage of a standard random washing in a so called "alternative random washing" process, led to a reduction in the strength loss where the desired color effect was obtained.
