Abstract

Career choice is an important process for all individuals. This study is aimed at determining the factors that influence career choice among engineering management students in Turkey. A questionnaire was applied to 152 engineering management students of top tier Turkish universities. Statistical analysis of the gathered data indicated that the most important factors influencing career choice decisions are the individuals' educational background and training, and having the freedom and opportunity to make future career decisions in their chosen career path. The most influential individuals and relationships include those of the significant other/partner as well as managers. In addition, the data gathered from the questionnaire was analyzed to examine the effects of protean/conventional career orientation and cultural views on individualism/collectivism on the career choice of engineering management students.
