Extraction of metals from copper slags of Küre by roasting and leaching

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

The extraction of metals from the copper slags, containing 1.24 % Cu, 0.53 % Co and 53.16% Fe is investigated in this study. Two different leaching methods, such as direct acidic leaching and roasting with pyrite before leaching were applied. The optimum leaching conditions of the direct acid leaching were found as leaching time of 2 hours, acid concentration of 120 g/l and temperature of 90°C. At these conditions, 88.7 % of Cu and 92.0 % of Co were extracted. In the roasting with pyrite followed by diluted acid leaching, the optimum roasting conditions were found as roasting temperature of 500°C, pyrite/slag ratio of 3/1 and roasting time of 1 hour. After roasting with pyrite the sample was subjected to 1 hour diluted acid (10g/L H2SO4) leaching at a temperature of 70°C. 38.2% of copper was extracted, while 83.5% of cobalt dissolution was obtained in the solution.
