Abstract

Environmental problems force the countries to become more sustainable and greener. Turkey is such a country which tries to become sustainable by promulgating regulations and setting environmental targets, especially in the waste management area. Waste of electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) is one of the most produced waste in Turkey, and Turkey is a country whose household appliances sector is very large. Some municipalities in Turkey are trying to recycle small household appliances waste by collecting them from the collection centers or houses, however there is no consistency in their methodology and collection periodicity. Usually the policies about WEEE of those municipalities are not sufficient to reach the waste recycling and recovering targets of Turkey. Moreover, some of the municipalities do not even take any action about waste collection. In this study, the goal is to put forward a fuzzy MCDM approach in order to compare, evaluate and select the most appropriate policy of small household appliances collection methods by taking into consideration three existing municipalities in Turkey that aim a well-suited policy in order to reach the waste management targets in Turkey.
