Abstract

The aim of this article is to introduce an approach which can be used for the determination of the appropriate position of the heat insulation layer in the opaque component from the heating period viewpoint. The proposed approach has been applied for living rooms have different opaque component alternatives in Istanbul region aiming to determine the appropriate position of the heat insulation layer. For this purpose, firstly, the boundaries of the heating periods are determined by basing on the lowest comfort value of the indoor air temperature and the outdoor air temperature for different opaque component alternatives. Secondly, the boundaries of the heating period are compared. As the result of the comparison, the opaque component alternative which provides the shortest heating period is qualified as the most appropriate one and the position of the heat insulation layer in this opaque is qualified as appropriate.
