Abstract

Commercial-purity (Cp) Ti was micro arc oxidized in calcium acetate and sodium phosphate electrolyte with and without surfactant addition under two different voltage levels by using a bipolar power supply. Following micro arc oxidation, surfaces of the samples were examined;surface roughness and coating thickness were measured to evaluate the effect of surfactant addition on surface morphology. Reciprocating wear tests were also carried out to determine wear resistance of the samples. Results indicated that surfactant addition was an effective way to reduce surface roughness of the sample oxidized under lower voltage, whereas it improved wear resistance of the sample when oxidized under higher voltage.
