Abstract

In this study, sintering behaviours of mechanical alloyed WC-Co system were investigated. Mechanical alloying was performed in a spex dual-mixer for different time periods. Different routes were followed to obtain target 94WC-6Co (wt.%) composition. Sintering behaviour of the system was studied as a function of mechanical alloying time, amount of mechanical alloyed fraction and type of additive added to the system. Mechanical alloyed powders and sintered samples were characterized via particle size measurements, phase analyses, density measurements and microstructural observations using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscope.
