Abstract

Tellurite based glasses are of scientific and technological interest because of their promising properties, which make them preferable materials for optical data storage, lasers, sensors and optoelectronic devices. The glass forming ability in tellurite glasses strongly related to the preparing conditions of the samples, especially on the melting temperature and cooling technique. In the present study, samples with the composition of (1-X)TeO 2 - xWO3, where x = 0.25 in molar ratio, were prepared by using conventional melt-quenching technique. Based on the methods previously preferred in the literature, the effect of cooling conditions on glass forming ability in the TeO2 - WO3 system was systematically investigated by applying two different melting temperatures with five different quenching techniques. Glass stability and glass forming tendency of the glass samples were determined by performing detailed differential thermal analyses.
