Abstract
Nanofibers due to their extremely small diameters, lowest bending, flexural, and torsion rigidities are being used for air and liquid filtration, sound absorption as well as in automotive industry. Experimental studies have also revealed that the nanofiber's web-like structure formed by TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) provide excellent noise extenuation. Their small size converts the noise energy into heat energy within a thin layer of nanofiber Web, leading to the efficient absorption of the noise. Nanofiber webs electrospun polymers can be thermally or chemically bonded to create nano sized spaces with large surfaces. Automobile and aircraft industries can be greatly benefited from the light weight property of nanofibers being used for sound absorption, as well as heat insulation capacity. These studies have also conducted series of trials with various non-woven thickness by sandwiching Polypropylene meltspun webs between needle punched nonwoven panels in order to further increase their noise absorption capacity.
