Abstract

This research delves into the mapping of digital architectural knowledge using an online encyclopedia, focusing on elucidating knowledge across four distinct categories: conceptual, procedural, visual, and configurational, by considering the aspect of digital humanities. A four-phase methodology has been outlined. It encompasses preprocessing of the dataset, employing artificial intelligence (unsupervised machine learning)-supported text mining techniques for thematic categorization, generating diverse forms of data visualization, as depicted in Figure A, using preprocessed datasets, representation of scientific articles within a database, and creation of the webpage. Purpose: This research aims to significantly enhance the acquisition and comprehension of digital architectural knowledge conceptually, procedurally, visually, and configurationally by harnessing the vast resources of the database and employing innovative visualization methods. Theory and Methods: This study outlines a four-phase methodology. The first phase involves data collection and preprocessing. The second phase reviews the literature on AI-assisted text mining, focusing on techniques for text clustering and categorizing. The third phase explores data visualization, using text categorization outputs and four knowledge layers. Finally, the fourth phase involves creating the webpage. Results: A hierarchical framework encompassing conceptual, procedural, visual, and configurational knowledge layers was employed to organize and synthesize information, alongside digitizing and clustering articles within the CUMINCAD database using TF-IDF vectorization and k-Means clustering algorithm. Conclusion: This study maps digital architecture knowledge through an interactive online encyclopedia to enhance learning. It employs text mining and hierarchical clustering to improve understanding of articles on digital architecture across conceptual, procedural, visual, and configurational knowledge layers. This interdisciplinary approach has the potential to transform architectural education, providing a dynamic platform for exploring digital architecture. Utilizing diverse contemporary datasets is crucial for achieving effective outcomes and advancing the fields of digital architecture and digital humanities.
