N2 - Cellulosic insulators typically consist of various additives including cellulose, flame retardant minerals and different binders. Such composite materials can be produced at various combinations of mineral additives, i.e., perlite, pumice, and vermiculite. In this study, 70% cellulosic shredded waste newspaper were mixed with boron additives to prevent fungi development and retard fire followed by different mineral additives to enhance thermal and sound insulation. While the density of cellulosic plates varied in the range of 90-160 kg/m 3, those with mineral additives increased the density to 95-180 kg/cm 3. Thermal conductivity and sound insulation of mixtures were measured to find out the optimum additive combination. The materials used as insulators in this study are discussed in terms of environment, human health and economic considerations to optimize their properties.
