Abstract

In this study, powder blends of zirconia (ZrO2) and yttria (Y2O3) are mechanically alloyed (MA'd) for 1h and 2h, consolidated and sintered to develop yttria partially stabilized zirconia materials. The powder blends contain 3, 4 and 5 mol % yttria as the stabilizer. The effects of the yttria amount and the mechanical alloying duration on the microstructural and mechanical properties were investigated. Microstructure and phase characterizations were performed via DSC, XRD and SEM analyses. Furthermore, density and hardness measurement of the as-consolidated and sintered samples were carried out.
