Design of Outer Runner-Type Brushless Permanent Magnet DC Motor for Lightweight E-Vehicles

Abstract

In this paper, high-efficiency high power density hub type electric motor is developed for electric vehicles (EVs). Brushless DC motor (BLDC) is frequently used in outer runner hub motor applications. BLDC motors provide high power density and wide range efficiency over variable speed. In this study, the basic design concept is reviewed, then appropriate slot-pole combinations for hub motor application are given. In the whole paper, the comparative design approach is adopted for this kind of combinations.
