Abstract

The aerospace industry has made a radical transition from traditional mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems to more advanced and more efficient electrical systems. Since the operation of avionics and flight control systems in an aircraft are provided by electrical power, advances in the efficiency of electric power generators has become inevitable. In the early times, the demand for electrical energy of aircraft engines was provided by wind generators. Electrical generators regulate the quality of energy use in the aircraft. In this context, an integrated drive generator is investigated from the efficiency point of view. As a main electricity supplier in aircraft applications, the investigation of this unit is carried out based on various design parameters such as dimension and the use of magnetic material. The optimization of the generator unit is provided by using the finite element method, with the consideration of a selected reference model.
