Abstract

Open source hardware projects are becoming more and more common. OpenRISC SOC, one of the prominent of these projects, has become quite popular with the support of volunteer developers. In this work, we have demonstrated the design of an DES (Data Encryption Standard) based system, that can be used in security applications, on ORPSoC-v2 (Openrisc Reference Platform System-on-Chip). Additionally, we have showed that the system works successfully with a sample C application on an fPgA. This work emphasizes design security and flexibility features of open source systems against alternative closed source solutions. Another purpose of this study is to establish a platform for future studies on the analysis of side channel attacks.
