Abstract

Solar control is of great importance in classrooms to prevent glare caused by direct sunlight and to prevent the undesirable heat coming through the windows during the overheated period. Means of solar control, like fixed shading devices should reduce the air conditioning load, obstruct the direct sunlight and cause minimum reduction in the daylight availability. A detailed study is necessary during the design stage of buildings to fulfil these objectives. This study covers a method of analyzing the daylight availability in classrooms with solar control in order to determine an optimal solution in terms of both visual and thermal comfort.
