Abstract

Power system reliability assessment is divided into two basic aspects: system adequacy and system security. This paper is aimed at evaluating the adequacy of composite power system. Contingency enumeration method is used for the calculations of composite power system adequacy indices. The selections of the contingencies to be examined are determined using different performance indices obtained by making use of transmission losses. In this study, to accelerate the computation of indices, a different hybrid contingency reduction method is also introduced. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is tested on a 24-bus IEEE reliability test system.
