Abstract

The article summarises the production processes and end uses of chenille yarn, detailing the effect of the yarn's properties on the abrasion resistance and seam slippage of chenille upholstery fabrics. An experimental investigation into the properties of the yarn and fabric is described. Results showed that chenille yarn material and chenille yarn twist have a detrimental effect on subsequent chenille upholstery fabric. Similarly fabric construction and design both had an affect on the seam slippage of these fabrics, moreover it is observed that pile length affects the abrasion properties of the fabric.
