Abstract

Turkey has important celestite reserves in Sivas. Ore sample used in this experimental study contains mainly celestite and gypsum as a gangue mineral. Flotation studies were carried out to obtain marketable celestite concentrates. Parameters such as pH, collector type and dosage were examined. Oleat was found not to be selective to separate celestite from gypsum, while Aero 825 sulphonate type collector provided better selectivity for this purpose. At pH 5, a celestite concentrate assaying 93.85% SrSO4 was produced with 78.4% recovery using 2000 g/ton sulphonate.
