Abstract

Rich colors, warm tones, and extraordinary patterns with traditional motifs have contributed to the status of Turkish carpets, that are among the most sought after household items all over the world. Turkey appears to have concentrated its efforts to carpet manufacturing and related industries, with the great impetus of cultural and historical background. Carpet manufacturing in Turkey has showed an explosive expansion during the last 10-15 years. It is estimated that Turkey produces nearly 40% of the world carpet demand. The total carpet exports is expected to amount to approximately $1 billion in 2005. The Turkish carpet industry prefers on-line or one-step bulked continuous filament (BCF) production due to cost and quality reasons. Turkey is set to become a major player in the European carpet sector, with many recent investments in manufacturing machinery coming from the Middle East.
