Abstract

AC breakdown strengths of CO2, N2, SF6 and the mixtures of CO2+SF6 and N2+SFs containing 0.5% and 4% of SF6 in non-uniform field were experimentally studied. The relative gas pressure was varied within the range of 100-500 kPa and the electrode gap spacing was 25 mm. The experimental results have shown that the addition of SF6 to CO2 and N2 causes a significant increase the AC breakdown voltage with respect to CO2 and N2 within the range of defined pressures.
