Abstract
The aim of this work is to manufacture fabric waste reinforced polymer composites in order to re-evaluate textile wastes. Three plain woven fabrics from 100% polyester and 100% cotton are used as the reinforcement, and unsaturated polyester resin is used as the matrix material. Fabrics that are used as the reinforcement are continuously oriented at single direction or randomly oriented in small pieces. Composite plates are manufactured by the press molding technique. Also % 100 polyester resin plates were produced with the same technique. Impact and tensile tests were carried out. When the results are compared with that of the pure matrix material, it was seen that impact strength values of all the composite plates were improved. As a result of the tensile tests, it was also observed that composite plates showed higher ductility behavior with higher elongation values.
