Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes. Strains and diametral changes were measured experimentally and numerically. Extrapolation of the long-term performance at ambient temperature was investigated, based on Bi-directional and Arrhenius methods, analytically. The findings include the deflection threshold (7.5% vertical change in diameter) as the governing failure condition, similar life predictions, for Bi-directional and Arrhenius methods, with service lives of approximately 30 and 80 years at ambient temperature, subjected to maximum loading. And the results show that Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe Association (CPPA)'s failure limit is not reasonable for 7.5% vertical change in diameter.
